Born in San Benedetto del Tronto, Giuseppina Piunti completed her musical studies graduating in piano and singing. After winning several international singing competitions, she made her debut at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona as Alice in Verdi's Falstaff next to Renato Bruson.
First soprano lirico, lirico spinto she sang in La Bohème, Un Ballo in Maschera, Attila, Otello, Lucrezia Borgia as well as in various operetta titles as Scugnizza, Countess Mariza, Paganini, Bat.
In recent years, favoring the development of her hybrid vocality, she faces a repertoire as soprano falcon. So she has been Carmen in Bizet's masterpiece, Charlotte in Massenet's Werther, Elizabeth in Maria Stuarda of Donizetti, Countess of Poggio in Verdi's Giorno di regno, Margared in Lalo's Le roi d'Ys, Giulietta in Tales of Hoffmann, Adalgisa in Norma, Componist in Ariadne auf Naxos of Strauss, Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana, Leonora in Donizetti's La Favorita.
Mrs Piunti sang at Teatro Massimo of Palermo, Teatro Comunale of Bologna, Teatro Regio in Turin, Opera House in Rome, Rossini Opera Festival, Teatro Verdi in Trieste, as well as in Detroit, Lima, Mannheim, Giessen, Wiesbaden, Karlsruhe, Wexford Opera Festival, Glyndebourne, Siena, Savona, Messina, Opéra de Wallonie in Liège, Montpellier, Nancy, Santander, Cordoba, Toulon and Marseille.
Among her last performances stand out an intense Sally Grant in the world premiere of "The Servant" by Marco Tutino, Adalgisa in Norma, Tigrana in Puccini's Edgar in the version in 4 acts and two interesting debuts in works by G. Menotti: an ardent Desideria in The saint of Bleecker street and an appassionate Duchess of Alba in Goya. Not least, the La Scala debut as Lola in Cavalleria Rusticana, conducted by Daniel Harding and directed by Mario Martone.
This year, seconding her passion to sing unusual but fascinating roles, Mrs. Piunti will play the title role in "Maria, Regina d´Inghilterra" by G. Pacini at the Stadttheater Giessen. In october she will open the season 2012/13 at the Opéra de Marseille as Carmen; in the same role she will be in november at Turin Teatro Regio.
